At LASCON 2026 in Austin, we presented “Sharpening the Blade: Exploiting and Securing Enterprise Agentic AI Platforms,” sharing practical attack scenarios, security vulnerabilities, and defensive strategies drawn from Blueinfy's ongoing penetration testing of enterprise AI applications and agentic platforms.
Enterprise AI is rapidly evolving from conversational assistants into autonomous agents capable of accessing sensitive data, executing code, invoking APIs, interacting with enterprise systems, and performing business-critical actions.
The fundamental security challenge has changed: attackers are no longer limited to manipulating what AI says. They can potentially manipulate what AI does.
Here are the key takeaways from our session.
1. Agentic AI Introduces a New Attack Surface
Traditional penetration testing focuses on applications, APIs, authentication, and infrastructure. Agentic AI introduces additional attack surfaces involving LLMs, RAG, memory, non-human identities (NHI), MCP servers, tools, connectors, and multi-agent communication.
A single malicious instruction embedded in a document, email, webpage, or tool response can influence an agent's reasoning and potentially trigger unauthorized actions across connected enterprise systems.
Security testing must therefore evaluate not only application vulnerabilities but also agent behavior, delegated authority, trust boundaries, and execution capabilities.
2. Real-World Exploitation: From Prompt Injection to Enterprise Compromise
We shared practical attack scenarios and findings across four implementation categories:
- Non-Agentic AI Applications: Direct/indirect prompt injection, system prompt leakage, sensitive data exposure, and unauthorized database access.
- Enterprise Agent Platforms: Rogue agents, excessive permissions, malicious MCP servers, connector abuse, and data exfiltration through enterprise integrations.
- Agentic AI Applications: Tool poisoning, excessive agency, unauthorized tool execution, cross-user data modification, and multi-agent attack propagation.
- Vibe-Coding & Coding Agents: Insecure generated applications, sandbox/container bypass, exposed credentials, malicious integrations, and infrastructure compromise.
These scenarios demonstrate how a seemingly harmless AI interaction can escalate into unauthorized data access, privileged tool execution, or business-process manipulation.
3. Securing Agentic AI Requires Defense in Depth
A central message of our presentation was that LLM guardrails alone are insufficient.
Effective protection requires multiple security layers:
- Prompt & Context Guardrails: Detect malicious instructions across prompts, documents, RAG, memory, and tool responses.
- Identity & Least Privilege: Enforce user-context permissions and restrict agent, tool, and connector authority.
- MCP & Connector Governance: Validate tool integrity, restrict integrations, and prevent unauthorized execution.
- Runtime Protection: Enforce action-level policies, sandboxing, and human approval for high-risk operations.
- Continuous Monitoring: Track agent decisions, tool invocations, anomalous behavior, and potential attack propagation.
We also demonstrated Blueinfy's security testing and defensive tools, including PenTestPrompt, FileInjector, MCP Fuzzer, AI Agent Scanner, and MCP-Protect, designed to help identify and mitigate emerging AI security risks.
Our key takeaway: The real security boundary is not the agent's response. It is the point where an agent's decision becomes an executable action—and how far that action can propagate.
